Betting Favorites

Viktor Hovland +1600

Fresh off a huge win at The Memorial in Muirfield Village, Hovland has a ton of momentum heading into the third major of the season. That win was just his fourth career victory on US soil, but the 25-year-old Norwegian is just getting warmed up. Looking at his results so far this season, Hovland has performed very well at the tour’s biggest events, including a T3 finish at The Players Championship, a T7 finish at the Masters and a T2 finish at the PGA Championship. If Hovland continues his strong play, it shouldn’t be long until he claims the first major of his young career.

Rory McIlroy +1400

With everything Rory has had to deal with between the PGA and LIV Tour over the past year, you can only imagine what a US Open victory would mean to the now 34-year-old. Add in the fact that he hasn’t won a major since 2014 and you can make the case that the Northern Irishman is facing as much pressure as just about anyone heading into this week’s tournament. It may feel like a lifetime ago, but Rory has four majors on his resume, including the 2011 US Open. He should be well prepared for this event and knows what it takes to win.

Brooks Koepka +1200

As the biggest name from the LIV Tour at this year’s US Open, all eyes will be on Koepka this week at the Los Angeles Country Club. The American golfer is looking to claim what would be the third US Open title of his career, having previously won the event in 2017 and 2018. He’s already won a LIV Tour event earlier this season, but Koepka is all about the majors – He already has five major championships to his name, and no golfer has performed better in the first two majors of 2023, with Koepka winning the PGA Championship and finishing T2 at the Masters. If that trend continues this week in Los Angeles, Koepka will be very tough to beat.

Jon Rahm +1100

As one of the biggest stars on the PGA Tour, Rahm is accustomed to the intense pressure and scrutiny that comes along with competing in the US Open. The Spaniard is enjoying an excellent season thus far, having already picked up wins at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, The American Express, the Genesis Invitational and the Masters. While he finished a disappointing T50 at the PGA Championship, Rahm will be looking to get back on track at this year’s US Open, having recently won this tournament back in 2021. As long as he can manage his fiery temper and keep his ball in the fairway, Rahm should be in the thick of things this weekend.

Scottie Scheffler +700

As the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world, it only makes sense that we find Scottie Scheffler atop our list of betting favorites to win the 2023 US Open. The 26-year-old Texan is following up last year’s incredible season with another strong showing in 2023, posting wins at the WM Phoenix Open and The Players Championship. Scheffler has been incredibly consistent this year and has finished in the top 10 in nearly every tournament he’s entered. He finished second at last year’s US Open and will look to do one better as he takes aim at what would be the second major of his career. With his length off the tee and smooth putting stroke, don’t be surprised if the World No. 1 finds a way to get the job done.

Dark Horse Picks

Colin Morikawa +3500

While he may not be a crazy longshot, Morikawa’s odds to win the 2023 US Open provide golf fans with a ton of betting value. Already touted as one of the best young players in golf, the 26-year-old should have plenty of support from outside the ropes this week with the tournament taking place in his hometown. He may be young, but the former Cal golfer has already earned five wins on the PGA Tour, including two major championships. The long rough at the US Open puts a premium on finding fairways, so it’s worth noting that Morikawa is sixth-best on tour in driving accuracy.

Dustin Johnson +4500

It wasn’t that long ago that DJ was the world’s top ranked golfer, but things can change quickly in the world of golf. Johnson now plays on the LIV Tour and has dropped all the way down to 90th in the Official World Golf Rankings. Still, this is a four-time major champion, including the 2016 US Open, with all the tools necessary to win against the world’s best golfers. Despite his poor performances in the first two majors of the season (T48 at the Masters and T55 at the PGA Championship), Johnson recently won a LIV Golf event in Tulsa and is an intriguing betting option heading into the 2023 US Open.

Jason Day +6000

Everyone loves a good comeback story and Jason Day has already shown he’s back on the right path following his recent win at the AT&T Byron Nelson just last month. It was the former World No. 1’s first win on the PGA Tour since 2018, but you better believe the Australian golfer is still hungry for more. Day has considerable experience in majors, having won the PGA Championship in 2015 and finishing in the top four of all four majors. As one of the most beloved players on tour, a US Open victory by Day would be the comeback story of the year!

Keegan Bradley +12500

Bradley is a crafty PGA Tour veteran with five wins on his resume, including the 2011 PGA Championship. Another one of those wins came earlier this season at the Zozo Championship in Japan, followed just a few weeks later with a runner-up finish at the Farmers Insurance Open. Its’ clear that Bradley is a longshot when looking at his betting odds, but his proficiency on the greens gives him a unique advantage at this event.

Nick Taylor +20000

It’s always fun to throw a few bucks at an astronomical longshot. You never know, right? Well after picking up the biggest win of his career just last week by winning his country’s national open, the Canadian golfer looks to claim yet another national open, this time in the United States. Taylor, who was once the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world, has now won three times on the PGA Tour and will be playing in his first US Open since finishing T36 all the way back in 2009. With his current betting odds offering a staggering 200 to 1 return on investment, Taylor could make you a lot of money if he can find a way to catch lightning in a bottle two weeks in a row.
