We are five games into the 2025 season; what have we learned so far?

The AFC East isn’t a one-man show – the New England Patriots proved that after a Sunday Night upset over Buffalo.

Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are pulling away in the AFC North as injuries continue to ravage the Bengals and Ravens. The AFC West, NFC East, NFC North, and NFC West are all in for a year-long dog fight, and quarterback Baker Mayfield has entered the MVP odds conversation.

With that, on to Week 6. The NFL odds bring some sneaky divisional matchups, some elite QB matchups, and a dark-horse Super Bowl matchup on Sunday Night.

Thursday Night Football

Philadelphia Eagles (4-1) at New York Giants (1-4)

  • Start: October 9 at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video
  • Spread: Eagles -7
  • Moneyline: Eagles -380, Giants +290
  • Total: 42

Thursday Night Football brings a powder keg matchup.

The gloss is already wearing off of Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart. He’s displayed plenty of talent in his two career starts, but his off-platform style has made the offense erratic, contributing to three turnovers in a 26-14 loss to the winless New Orleans last week. If he looks lost versus an elite Philly defense, could we see Russell Wilson make a return?

The Eagles, meanwhile, finally got their disgruntled wide receivers rolling against Denver, only to give up a 17-point lead and lose 21-17. If the reigning Super Bowl champs struggle against a seven-point homedog on national TV, they could be at each other’s throats.

Home teams are 1-4 against the spread (ATS) on Thursday Night Football this year.

Dallas Cowboys (2-2-1) at Carolina Panthers (2-3)

  • Start: October 12 at 1 p.m. ET on FOX
  • Spread: Dallas -3.5
  • Moneyline: Cowboys -185, Panthers +160
  • Total: 49

What direction are the Cowboys and Panthers heading? Both teams are searching for stability. For Dallas, the inconsistency stems from a defense allowing 30.8 points per game, ranking 29th in the league. For Carolina, it’s the offense holding them back — the Panthers rank 24th in scoring and 26th in passing yards, struggling to generate rhythm week to week.

Dallas’ defense showed improvement last week, holding the New York Jets to just two field goals for three quarters before garbage time created a 37-22 final. Carolina’s offense came alive after being down 17-0 to Miami early in the second quarter, scoring 20 unanswered to win 27-24.

Dallas is the favorite on the road; however, Carolina is 2-0 ATS at home.

San Francisco 49ers (4-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1)

  • Start: October 12 at 4:25 p.m. on CBS
  • Spread: Tampa Bay -2.5
  • Moneyline: Tampa Bay -165, San Francisco +140
  • Total: 47.5

Tampa Bay has faced one of the most demanding schedules in 2025, yet aside from a six-point loss to the Eagles, they’ve found ways to win. Their average margin of victory is just 0.6 points — the narrowest among 4–1 teams — but Baker Mayfield’s MVP-level play has made the difference. Last week, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 375 yards with fewer than five incompletions. His precision and 10-to-1 TD-to-INT ratio have fueled a +2-turnover differential, even with the Bucs’ defense ranking in the league’s lower half.

Tampa Bay is favored against a resilient 49ers squad that beat the L.A. Rams straight up as 8.5-point underdogs.

Sunday Night Football

Detroit Lions (4-1) at Kansas City Chiefs (2-3)

  • Start: October 12 at 8:20 a.m. ET on NBC
  • Spread: Kansas City -1.5
  • Moneyline: N/A
  • Total: 49.5

Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions have proven with another hot start that their offensive firepower is here to stay. That said, Green Bay is the only team above .500 they’ve played this year – that was Week 1, and they lost 27-13. Their Sunday Night Football bout against Kansas City is a good test to see where they rank in terms of Super Bowl favorites.

The stats are on Detroit’s side despite opening as underdogs. Their margin of victory is 12.4 points per game, they’re 4-1 ATS, and they’ve covered their spreads by an average of +8.3 points.

Monday Night Football

Chicago Bears (2-2) at Washington Commanders (3-2)

  • Start: October 12 at 8:15 p.m. ET on ABC
  • Spread: Washington 3.5
  • Moneyline: Washington -225, Chicago +185
  • Total: 49.5

Last year, when the Bears and Commanders met, Jayden Daniels was clearly ahead of Caleb Williams as a rookie. Now, when they meet again on Monday Night Football, things might be closer.

The Bears won two games straight up and ATS before their bye, and Williams was the primary catalyst in both contests. He’ll need to be sharp when visiting Northwest Stadium. Daniels looked 100% in his return and 27-10 win over the L.A. Chargers, and the Bears’ defense has given up the fifth-worst 29.3 points per game.
