18-Online Roulette FAQ

What is the Difference Between American and European Roulette?

The main difference is the number of pockets on the wheel. European roulette has 37 pockets: numbers 1-36 and one green 0. American roulette has 38 pockets: numbers 1-36, a green 0, and a green 00.

Outside of that double-zero pocket, the only other difference is that a unique “Five Number Bet” is available that includes 0,00, 1, 2, and 3 – it pays 6:1. But both let you place straight-up, split, street, corner, color, odd/even, high/low, dozen, and column bets. The payouts for corresponding bets are also identical. A straight-up bet, for example, pays 35:1 on either version.

At Bovada, you can choose the format that suits the experience you want. The roulette selection includes American and European games in styles such as standard (modern table with standard bets, optimized for mobile devices), classic (throwback table with standard bets), and live casino (standard roulette with a live table and real dealer). If you want to examine each wheel separately before playing, read our American roulette guide and our European roulette guide.

What is the Difference Between Standard and Classic Roulette?

Standard and classic roulette follow the same rules and offer the same familiar bets and payouts. The difference is mainly in how the game looks and feels on screen.

Standard roulette is a clean, streamlined interface that keeps the wheel, betting layout, chip controls, and Spin button simple and easy to find. It is a minimalist choice optimized for mobile devices and just as clean on desktop.

Classic roulette brings the details and atmosphere of a real casino roulette table. The wheel and betting area have a more traditional presentation, but you still choose your chip value, place your bets, and start spinning the same way.

Neither version changes the rules, so you can pick one based on the look you prefer.

Can I Play Online Roulette for Free?

Yes. Bovada offers Practice Play on eligible roulette games, allowing you to explore the game without using real money. When logged in, you’ll have the opportunity to swap between Practice and Real Play before you start spinning.

Practice Play is useful for learning where each bet goes and how payouts appear. You can try inside and outside bets while getting comfortable with the chip controls, repeat feature, clear button, and new strategies.

When you feel comfortable with the layout and controls, leave Practice Play and switch to Real Play.

Can I Earn a Casino Bonus for Playing Roulette Online?

Yes, Bovada offers casino bonuses that can be used on roulette. However, if you try hedging by betting on red and black at the same time to meet bonus requirements with low risk, the bonus will not roll over into cash. New players can review the current welcome offers, while existing players can check their accounts for other available promotions.

Always open the promotion details before opting in. The terms explain which games qualify, how much roulette play contributes toward any playthrough requirement, the time available to complete it, and any other conditions. This matters because contribution rates can vary by game even when a bonus is available for casino play.

Visit Bovada’s Promotions or Crypto Promotions section for the latest information and choose an offer that works with the way you want to play. A welcome bonus can give you more to play with from the start, and create more churn when you’re looking for a big spin or lucrative payout.

How Long Do I Have to Place My Bets Before Each Spin?

This isn’t like a real casino; you are in complete control up until you click spin. Choose a chip value, place your chips on the layout at your own pace, and click Spin when you are ready. You can review every position, add another chip, or clear a selection before starting the round.

This gives you time to decide whether to cover one number, a small group, or a broader section of the layout. Afterward, you can build a new wager or click Repeat to repeat the same wagers all over again.

Live roulette works more like a real table. Because you’re actually dealing with a real “croupier,” you have a betting window before the on-screen countdown completes. Betting closes before the dealer spins the wheel, so place or adjust your chips before the timer ends.

What Are Inside Bets and Outside Bets in Roulette?

Inside bets are placed within the numbered grid. That grid contains numbers 1-36 in red and black, along with the green zero or double zero pockets. These bets cover an individual number or multiple numbers if you place your chips between the numbers.

Common inside bets include:

  • Straight Up: Covers one number and pays 35:1.
  • Split: Covers two adjoining numbers and pays 17:1.
  • Street: Covers a horizontal row of three numbers and pays 11:1.
  • Corner: Covers four numbers that meet at one corner and pays 8:1.

To place one, position your chip directly on a number or on the line or intersection shared by the numbers you want to cover. The placement shows exactly which outcomes are included before you spin.

Outside bets appear in the sections surrounding the numbered grid. They cover broader outcomes rather than one number or a cluster of numbers. Wagers like Red/Black, Odd/Even, and Low/High each pay 1:1. Low covers numbers 1-18, while High covers 19-36. Dozens cover 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36 and pay 2:1. Columns also cover 12 numbers and pay 2:1.

You can place inside bets, outside bets, or a combination of both on the same spin, as long as the total risk stays within the table limits. You can learn more about the bets we offer in our full American Roulette bets guide.

What is Live Roulette?

Live roulette is a real-time version of the game streamed through Bovada’s live casino. A real dealer operates a physical roulette wheel while cameras show the table, wheel, and results as the round happens.

You still place bets through the digital layout on your screen. Select a chip amount, choose your bet amounts during the betting window, and confirm everything before betting closes. The dealer then spins the wheel, the ball settles in a numbered pocket, and the system settles the bets using the result shown on the live stream.

The familiar roulette rules and bet types still apply. You can make inside bets as well as outside bets on colors, ranges, dozens, columns, etc. The difference is the presentation: live roulette adds a host, a real wheel, table views, and the shared pace of a live casino game. It’ll put you right at the table as if you stepped into Caesar’s Palace.

How Do I Play Roulette on Mobile?

You can play roulette on a smartphone or tablet through Bovada’s mobile website; you don’t need a separate app to download. Just open Bovada in your phone’s browser, sign in, go to the casino, and pick your table.

The mobile interface adapts the wheel and layout and lets you control it all through your touchscreen. Choose a chip, tap where you want to place your bets, and tap Spin.

All the games you find on desktop can be found via mobile, including American, European, Standard, Classic, VIP, and live roulette. Just like at home, it’s best to have a stable internet connection, especially when streaming live casino video. You can switch between portrait and landscape modes to find the view that’s best for you.

Can I Play Online Roulette with Crypto?

Absolutely. Bovada accepts supported cryptocurrencies for casino play, including roulette. After funding your account with an available digital currency, Bovada credits the deposit to your account as USD.

To get started, sign in and open the deposit area. Choose one of the currently supported cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Tether, etc. Copy the deposit address or scan the QR code, and send the amount from your crypto wallet. Check the address, currency, and network carefully before confirming the transfer. Once the confirmations are complete and the funds are in your Bovada account, you can start playing.

Crypto players generally get the better bonus offers, including a Welcome Bonus. Check the Crypto Promotions section for the current deals available.
