ESPN announcers Bob Wischusen and Louis Riddick have covered four-straight games where the underdog upset the favorite, three of which were AP Top 15 teams losing to an unranked opponent. If you were a superstitious man, you could call them the greatest “coolers” in NCAA history. However, with Texas dropping from preseason No. 1 to unranked, and Penn State becoming the first top 10 team to lose to an 0-4 or worse opponent in 40 years, it’s safe to say this issue is association-wide.

The question is, when does it end? Have we flipped the rankings enough that the more consistent squads are firmly entrenched atop the AP Top 25, or are we due for more Fall madness?

Main Event Matchups

No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0) at No. 17 Illinois Fighting Illini (5-1)

  • Odds: Buckeyes -14
  • Total: 49.5
  • Time: 12 p.m. ET
  • FOX

Amidst all the chaos, the Ohio State Buckeyes have been the steadiest squad in college football and favorites to win the National title. However, Texas is the only top-ranked squad that Ohio has faced all year, which could be argued shouldn’t have been ranked at all. Therefore, their 17th-ranked opponent, the Fighting Illini, shouldn’t be taken lightly despite being a 14-point underdog at home.

Illinois has been another squad on an AP Ranking roller coaster ride. They ranked as high as ninth in the nation before dropping to 20th with a 63-10 defeat at the hands of No. 19 Indiana. They rebounded with a win over USC and Purdue to move them back into the top 20.

While Illinois may be able to take advantage of the inexperience of quarterback Julian Sayin, they’ll have to deal with a truly elite defense that ranks first in the nation with just five points against.

No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide (4-1) at No. 14 Missouri Tigers (5-0)

Odds: Crimson Tide -3

Total: 52

Time: 12 p.m. ET

ABC

The Tide are right back where they started after back-to-back SEC wins against Georgia and Vanderbilt. There were whispers that head coach Kalen DeBoer’s seat was heating up after stumbling in Week 1 against Florida State. But the tide has turned – the offense has found its rhythm, and the Crimson Tide is back to its preseason ranking.

Junior QB Ty Simpson has been the catalyst of Alabama’s resurgence. He’s squarely in the Heisman conversation with over 1,400 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and just one interception.

He’ll have to be sharp against Missouri. Under Eliah Drinkwitz, the Tigers displayed some terrifying offense by averaging 45.2 points and 292 yards rushing. Oddsmakers understand how dangerous the Tigers are, opening them as just three-point homedogs against a powerhouse program.

No. 7 Indiana Hoosiers (5-0) at No. 3 Oregon Ducks (5-0)

  • Odds: Oregon -7.5
  • Total: 55
  • Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
  • CBS

In preseason, this matchup wouldn’t have been on anyone’s radar. Now, it features two potential first-round quarterbacks.
Indiana truly began to make waves in Week 4 after dropping 63 points on Illinois. QB Fernando Mendoza was surgical with five TDs and a 91.3% completion percentage.

Oregon, meanwhile, recently upset No. 3 Penn State and enters this matchup as a 7.5-point home favorite. Quarterback Dante Moore will need to show he can sustain that momentum against an Illinois defense allowing just 9.6 points per game – third-best in the nation.

No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners (5-0) at Texas Longhorns (3-2)

  • Odds: Texas -1
  • Total: 42.5
  • Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
  • ABC

The “Red River Rivalry” always carries history and drama, but this year’s intrigue centers on one storyline: the unraveling of Arch Manning. In the age of social media, few players have carried higher expectations – and Manning’s uneven play has underscored how online hype can inflate prospects far beyond reality, especially when paired with early Heisman buzz.

The shock now is not that Manning isn’t a Heisman favorite, but instead that he’s arguably the worst QB in the SEC.
But oddsmakers aren’t counting out unranked Texas just yet. With Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer still recovering from hand surgery, his availability for Saturday remains uncertain -and if he’s cleared to start, expect the line to shift quickly in the Sooners’ favor.

While Oklahoma is 4-9 against the spread versus Texas, Texas is just 1-6 ATS in its last seven games.
