American sprinter Noah Lyles took the world by storm after winning the men’s 100 meter race by five thousandths of a second, earning the “fastest man in the world” moniker. He came into these Olympics as the reigning world champion in both the 100 and 200m, but was ready to make a bigger splash in Paris. He won bronze in the 200m in Tokyo and hasn’t lost this event since. His goal is to win an astounding four gold medals at these games, a task that will prove immensely difficult.

Semi-final Challenges
On Wednesday, he finished second in the men’s 200 meter semifinal to Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo. Tebogo was the only runner to break 20-seconds with a time of 19.96 as Lyles was close behind at 20.08 (his personal best in this event is 19.31). Having also qualified for the final, American Kenny Bednarik poses a familiar threat to Lyles as he defeated him in Tokyo. Reigning Olympic champion, Canada’s Andre De Grasse, did not make the final.
The Upcoming 200m Final
The men’s 200 meter Olympic final will take place Thursday evening where Noah Lyles will attempt to win both the Olympic 100 meter and 200 meter for the first time since Usain Bolt did so in 2016. An American hasn’t won this event since Shawn Crawford in 2004.

USA Continue To Dominate Women’s Basketball
In women’s basketball, Team USA continued their dominance as they secured their 59th straight Olympic victory. The last time they took a loss on the court at the Summer Games was 1992. The Americans punched their ticket to the semifinals after defeating Nigeria 88-74, leading by as many as 30 points in the second half. Two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson led the Americans with 20 points and 11 rebounds, her third double-double of these Olympic games and fourth of her Olympic career. The 4 double-doubles are now the most ever by a U.S. Woman.
Six-time Olympian Diana Taurasi was replaced in the starting lineup by Las Vegas Aces star, Jackie Young. Young had been contributing in a limited role off the bench, but thrived in her new-found role by dropping 15 points.
