This will be the fifth running of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the race comes at a great time during the F1 season with this year’s Drivers’ Championship beginning to heat up. The Baku City Circuit has a length of 6 km (3.7 miles). With 51 laps, the total race length is 306.05 km (190.17 miles). Featuring a long main straight allowing players to attack more strategically, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is often known to provide high speeds and intense drama on the track. Looking at the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix betting odds, this race could lead to some major payouts if anyone other than Verstappen or Leclerc manage to cross the finish line first.
F1 Drivers’ Championship Update
Now seven races into the F1 season, things are getting interesting in this year’s Drivers’ Championship. Sergio Perez’s victory in Monaco was huge for the Mexican driver and he now sits just 15 points back of Max Verstappen in the Driver standings. Charles Leclerc is still in second place and remains in striking distance of Verstappen, but the Ferrari driver will need to get back on track after missing the podium in back to back races.
2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Betting Odds
Betting on Formula 1 racing is a great way to add some extra excitement to the F1 action. It can also lead to some huge payouts if you manage to pick the winning driver. Last week’s Monaco Grand Prix was the perfect example, with underdog Sergio Perez winning the race and paying out on his generous +1800 betting odds. With that in mind, here’s a look at the top five betting favorites to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, based on their current odds at Bovada Sportsbook.
Max Verstappen +110
As the current leader of the Drivers’ Championship standings, it’s only natural that Verstappen is the betting favorite to win this year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver has looked sharp behind the wheel and already has four wins on the season. While he’s never won in Baku, Verstappen will be looking for redemption after leading last year’s Azerbaijan GP before tragically crashing out with only five laps to go.
Charles Leclerc +175
Despite starting the season red hot, the Ferrari driver desperately needs to get back on track with a strong showing in Azerbaijan. Following a DNF in Spain and a P4 finish in Monaco, Leclerc will try making his way back to the podium in Baku. For an F1 driver that managed to win two of the first three races this season, Leclerc’s current betting odds offer excellent value heading into the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Sergio Perez +550
Perez showed Formula 1 what he’s capable of with last week’s impressive victory in Monaco. This weekend, he has some F1 odds makers and betting experts looking at him to make it two in a row at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Perez will also be the defending champion in Baku, having won the race in 2021. With Perez tasting victory in Monaco and vaulting himself back into contention for the Drivers’ Championship, expect another strong showing for the Mexican driver.
Carlos Sainz +900
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz has already earned four podium finishes through just seven races in Formula 1 this season. To help put that in perspective, Sainz finished with the same number of podium finishes all of last season, despite appearing in 22 total races. While he’s yet to win a Formula 1 race so far in his career, it should only be a matter of time with the Spanish driver behind the wheel of such a well-performing car.
George Russell +2200
Arguably the most consistent driver in Formula 1 this season, George Russell has managed to finish in the top five in the first seven races of 2022. While that consistency is impressive, it should be pointed out that the Mercedes driver has just two P3 finishes and the rest are all P4 and P5. Mercedes usually does better on tracks with longer straightaways, so perhaps Russell finds a way to contend at this year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
