While NFL futures have their sights set on the usual suspects for Super Bowl supremacy (Buffalo, Kansas City, Detroit, Philadelphia), some new contenders have put together win streaks that should put the league on notice.

The Indianapolis Colts are unstoppable. With a 38-14 win against the Tennessee Titans, they’ve won six straight with a league-leading 14.5 margin of victory. The Denver Broncos have had some offensive hiccups, but have cleared five straight themselves, including their 44-24 demolition of Dallas in Week 8. And the New England Patriots outgunned the Cleveland Browns 32-13 in Week 8; their fifth-straight win straight up and against the spread (ATS).

Are we seeing a shift as some of the established squads start to sputter? Maybe the NFL odds for Week 9 will flesh things out.

Baltimore Ravens (2-5) at Miami Dolphins (2-6)

  • Start: October 30 at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video
  • Spread: Ravens -7
  • Moneyline: Ravens -390, Dolphins +295
  • Total: 49.5

Baltimore fans rejoice! Barring a setback in practice, the Ravens announced they expect to see two-time MVP Lamar Jackson back on the field to face the Miami Dolphins. The Ravens are riding high after breaking their four-game losing streak against the Chicago Bears. Even before losing Jackson, Baltimore’s defense had been a massive letdown. But in Week 8 they tightened up, holding a Bears team averaging 25.3 points to just 16. If that defensive form holds – and Lamar Jackson returns to full strength – a late-season Baltimore surge could be brewing.

It’ll have to start Thursday night against Miami – a team riding high after snapping a three-game skid with a 34-10 win over Atlanta, their highest point total of the season. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa delivered his best performance yet, throwing four touchdowns without an interception.

Denver Broncos (6-2) at Houston Texans (3-4)

  • Start: November 2 at 1 p.m. ET on FOX
  • Spread: Texans -1
  • Moneyline: Texans -110, Broncos -110
  • Total: 39.5

We can officially call the Broncos resilient. One week, they grind out a 13-11 win over the 1-7 Jets; the next, they explode for 33 points in the fourth quarter to stun the Giants. Last week, they shook off an early interception to dominate the Cowboys. The defense is fierce, the quarterback is tough, and the fight is real – but can Denver overcome early miscues against a Texans team finding its rhythm as a legitimate AFC contender?

Texans QB C.J. Stroud had his best game of the season with 318 yards and two touchdowns against a well-coached San Francisco defense. It’s for that reason the 6-2 Broncos are one-point underdogs on the road.

The Broncos have been riding a five-game win streak, but are 3-2 ATS during that run. The Texans have won and covered three of their last four.

Indianapolis Colts (7-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3)

  • Start: November 2 at 1 p.m. ET on CBS
  • Spread: Indianapolis -3.5
  • Moneyline: N/A
  • Total: 48.6

For all the hype and storylines surrounding the reclamation of QB Daniel Jones, there stands a very big piece of the puzzle: running back Jonathan Taylor. The Colts’ offense efficiency starts and finishes with Taylor. The six-year pro leads the NFL in carries, rushing yards, and touchdowns, and much of Jones’ play-action success comes from the defense having to account for the star running back.

Can the Steelers slow the Colts’ run game down and make them one-dimensional? It is possible, as they held Green Bay to just 3.6 yards per carry in Week 8. But their pass defense has also been the worst in the league; therefore, it almost feels like if the Steelers load up on Taylor, they’ll be playing right into the Colts’ hands.

Unsurprisingly, the Colts are currently -3.5 favorites on the road. It’ll take some Aaron Rodgers magic to keep up.

Arizona Cardinals (2-5) at Dallas Cowboys (3-4-1)

  • Start: November 3 at 8:15 p.m. ET on ABC/ESPN
  • Spread: Cowboys -3
  • Moneyline: Cowboys -160, Cardinals +135
  • Total: 53.5

What direction are the Dallas Cowboys going in? Optimism was growing entering Week 8 due to QB Dak Prescott throwing 13 touchdowns with no interceptions over his last four games. But he quickly came back to earth with less than 200 yards, two interceptions, and no touchdowns against Denver’s tough defense.

Going into Week 9, it may be time to say that the Cowboys are just average. The question remains whether they’re a top-10 pick average, where the Arizona Cardinals currently reside, or Wild Card-contender average, like Houston or Pittsburgh.

Oddsmakers have Dallas listed as a three-point home favorite with a high total of 53.5 – likely influenced by a defense allowing the second-most points in the league at 31.3 per game. The question is whether Arizona can do its part to push this total over.

Quarterback Kyler Murray, expected back from the foot sprain that sidelined him for two weeks and a bye, led the Cardinals to just 21.6 points per game as a starter. In his absence, Jacoby Brissett sparked the offense, averaging 29 points per game and covering the spread in consecutive outings.
