NFL Week 4 Odds and Betting Lines

We’re already almost a quarter of the way through the NFL season, with Week 4 just ahead. Some teams continue to surprise (Minnesota, Seattle) while others look like they might be in trouble (Dallas, San Francisco).

Meanwhile, the emergence of the highly touted rookie class of QBs continues, with Caleb Williams and Bo Nix showing improvements last weekend.

Dallas Cowboys (-210) at New York Giants (+175)

This NFC East rivalry features two teams possibly heading in different directions.

The New York Giants picked up their first W of the season last weekend, with their rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers already looking like a seasoned vet.

Nabers led the G-men with 2 touchdowns, bringing his season totals to almost 300 yards receiving and 3 TDs on 23 receptions. The rookie has scored half of the team’s TDs this year and he might have given erratic Giants’ QB Daniel Jones some much-needed confidence.

But pass defense is the least of the Dallas Cowboys’ concerns. They allowed 274 yards rushing last weekend, and with this Thursday Night Football game looming, four days may not be enough to turn things around. New York’s running back Devin Singletary is on track for 1,100 yards this season and he could do some damage with Nabers stretching the field.

The Cowboys are 4.5-point favorites, but with Giants (+175) playing at home, Dallas may not just have trouble covering the spread – they could be in danger of falling to 1-3.

Denver Broncos (+260) at New York Jets (-320)

There are more than 200 ways to bet on the Broncos-Jets game, and the way you play it might depend on your feelings about the two teams’ very different quarterbacks.

The New York Jets’ veteran QB Aaron Rodgers showed last week that he’s still got an MVP-caliber arm, throwing darts for 280+ yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s also coming off 10 days’ rest, with plenty of extra time to study the gaps in the Broncos’ defense.

The Jets have weapons like Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, players that have allowed them to score at least three touchdowns in every game so far this season.

Denver’s Bo Nix, on the other hand, is a rookie who has played like one at times. Will he feel the pressure of playing against a future Hall of Famer like Rodgers, in the Big Apple no less?

Nix did have the best game of his young career last weekend though, with 25 completions and no sacks or INTs in the Broncos’ win over Tampa Bay.

But it was the Denver D that was the star of the show against the Bucs. If they can come close to repeating last weekend’s 7-sack performance – against a 40-year-old QB this time – the Broncos could keep this closer than the current 7-point spread suggests.

Los Angeles Rams (+120) at Chicago Bears (-140)

Coming off a big win over the San Francisco 49ers last weekend, the LA Rams are somewhat surprising underdogs heading into the Windy City.

The Rams are in injury trouble, so that might have something to do with it. Star receivers Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp are both out. But they just got a big-time performance from RB Kyren Williams, who ran for over 100 yards and 3 TDs in a victory over the Niners.

The Chicago Bears enjoyed several firsts in their close loss to Indianapolis last week. It was the first touchdown pass for #1 draft pick Caleb Williams and the first touchdown catch for rookie WR Rome Odunze. Williams finished with 2 TDs and 350+ yards, while Odunze had 6 catches for 112 yards.

If this means both players are poised for a breakout, the Bears could cause the Rams’ pass defense – which is in the bottom third of the league currently – some real headaches.

With a tight spread (currently at -2.5 for the Bears), there are plenty of other betting options for the Rams-Bears game.

Philadelphia Eagles (-135) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+115)

The Philadelphia Eagles, early Super Bowl candidates heading into the season, needed to rely on a clutch defensive performance to shut down the New Orleans Saints in a close, low-scoring game last week.

The Eagles benefited from a standout performance by running back Saquon Barkley, who recorded 2 touchdowns and nearly 150 rushing yards. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, meanwhile, looked like a different team than their 2-0 start suggested. QB Baker Mayfield was sacked seven times, and life against a tough Eagles’ defense might not get much easier.

Philadelphia is banged-up at wide receiver, which may explain the close moneyline and point spread (just -2.0 for Philly currently). But if Barkley continues his MVP-type season and their defense repeats its performance from last week, the Eagles might find easy prey in Tampa Bay.

Seattle Seahawks (+180) at Detroit Lions (-220)

With one of the highest Over/Unders for the week ahead, oddsmakers are expecting some offensive fireworks under the dome in Detroit for the Lions-Seahawks game.

Many football fans view Detroit as a Super Bowl contender this season, but they faced a setback against Tampa in Week 2, and all of their victories have come by a narrow margin.

One of the issues is Lions’ QB Jared Goff and his turnovers. He has thrown four picks in the team’s first 3 games.

At the same time, the Seahawks have allowed each of their opponents to fewer than 150 yards passing in their 3-0 start to the season. That stat comes with an asterisk though, as each win has been against a subpar team with a weaker quarterback, none of whom are as good as Goff.

With one of the loudest and proudest crowds in the league, the Lions head into this Monday Night Football game with the odds on their side. But veteran QB Geno Smith and his trio of top receivers – D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba – could make things interesting.
