A growing problem is taking shape, and no one seems to be addressing it: underwhelming quarterback play. Outside of New England’s Drake Maye — who’s benefited from a cotton-candy schedule — and Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles — despite coming off a season-worst outing at Carolina — this is a far cry from the days when “Year of the QB” dominated every Monday morning headline.
Defenses are faster and better equipped to handle complicated passing concepts. The teams that are winning this year pass the ball efficiently due to a strong run game. Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen are all struggling, making every bet against the spread a difficult one.
And it doesn’t get any easier. This week, we have several intense matchups with playoff implications. We breakdown the best games for Week 14 and provide the latest NFL Odds.

Thursday Night Football
Dallas Cowboys (6-5-1) at Detroit Lions (7-5)
- Start: December 4 at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video
- Spread: Cowboys +3.0, Lions -3.0
- Moneyline: Cowboys +140, Lions -165
- Total: 54.5
In a year when the Dallas Cowboys finally became back-page news, they’re starting to roll. The Cowboys have won three straight, two of which are against last year’s Super Bowl matchup, and have also gone 3-0 against the spread (ATS).
QB Dak Prescott, running back Javonte Williams, and the wide receiver duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens have commanded the second-best scoring offense in the NFL (29.3 points per game), the best passing offense (271.3 yards per game), and the 13th-best rushing attack.
They visit a desperate Detroit team that has been playing .500 football and has failed to cover the spread in five of its last seven games.
Sunday Games
Cincinnati Bengals (4-8) at Buffalo Bills (8-4)
- Start: December 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX
- Spread: Bengals +6.0, Bills -6.0
- Moneyline: Bengals +225, Bills -275
- Total: 52.5
Joe Burrow is back with the Bengals, which makes every Cincy game moving forward an interesting watch. Burrow came back from injury on Thanksgiving and dominated the Baltimore Ravens, only being sacked once and throwing for 261 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bills, meanwhile, rebounded after an ugly loss to the Houston Texans with a great showing at Pittsburgh. The most significant change that led to their 26-7 win at Pittsburgh is the focus on the run game. RB James Cook III had 32 carries for 144 yards, while Josh Allen only had 23 pass attempts. Cook is an elite threat at RB. Expect him to get plenty of carries against a Bengals defense that ranks last in points against (31.2) and second-last in rushing yards against (153.3).
Indianapolis Colts (8-4) at Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4)
- Start: December 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS
- Spread: Colts -2.0, Jaguars +2.0
- Moneyline: Colts -130, Jaguars +110
- Total: 47.5
What began as the Colts running away with the AFC South is now a fight to the finish. After losing to Houston last week, Indy faces the Jacksonville Jaguars next, who have won three straight and four of their last five.
Both squads rely on the run game to drive their offenses, but the Colts will likely need to lean more on QB Daniel Jones to move the ball; Jacksonville leads the league in rushing yards allowed with 82.4 yards per game.
The winner of this game will have the lead in the AFC South as both teams have a 2-1 division record.
Chicago Bears (9-3) at Green Bay Packers (8-3-1)
- Start: December 7 at 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX
- Spread: Bears +6.5, Packers -6.5
- Moneyline: Bears +255, Packers -310
- Total: 44.5
The Bears and Packers have been facing off since 1921. This is football history at its highest, and now both squads are vying for the top spot in the NFC North.
Chicago is the hotter team, winners of five straight and holding the second-best ATS record in the league at 8-4. They’ve been paced by their run game, which ranks second in the NFL with 153.8 yards per game, while second-year QB Caleb Williams has managed to make timely plays in the fourth quarter.
Green Bay has regained its offensive firepower after struggles in Week 9 and Week 10, winning three straight, including QB Jordan Love dropping four touchdowns against Detroit on Thanksgiving – they’ve covered two games in a row.
Sunday Night Football
Houston Texans (7-5) at Kansas City Chiefs (6-6)
- Start: December 7 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC
- Spread: Texans +3.0, Chiefs -3.0
- Moneyline: Texans +155, Chiefs -180
- Total: 42.0
It’s hard to believe, but the Chiefs are on their last legs to reach the playoffs. At 6-6, there’s little chance they win the AFC West over the 10-2 Denver Broncos, and rank 10th overall in the AFC, putting them well below the threshold for a Wildcard berth. Kansas City needs to win every game down the stretch to have a chance, starting with the Houston Texans, the best defense in the NFL, and winners of four straight.
Monday Night Football
Philadelphia Eagles (8-4) at Los Angeles Chargers (8-4)
- Start: December 7 at 4:05 p.m. ET on CBS
- Spread: Eagles -3.0, Chargers +3.0
- Moneyline: Eagles -150, Chargers +130
- Total: 40.5
Despite all the drama and losing two straight, the Eagles still sit squarely atop the NFC East. But they’ve lost all momentum, as they’re struggling on offense and their defense is no longer playing at a Super Bowl level.
The Chargers, meanwhile, have settled into just being a pretty good team with a pretty good QB and a pretty good coach. They’ll likely reach the playoffs, but you’ll never know which squad you’re getting from week to week – highlighted by their .500 ATS record over the last six weeks.
