WHAT ARE PROP BETS?

The beauty of prop bets is that anyone can play. The action is not just happening on the field, especially at the Super Bowl, and it doesn’t always depend on the score of the game.

They’re also called ‘Proposition Bets’, more formally. But prop bets aren’t that formal. Anyone can wager on what color the Gatorade poured over the winning coach will be or how long the National Anthem might go on for.

Just pick your bet amount and choose the odds – and the hunches – that you feel best about, and enjoy the entire Super Bowl LIX experience.

TOP 10 SUPER BOWL LIX PROPS

10. How long will it take Jon Batiste to sing the National Anthem?

Will he go on and on so you need to “Drink Water” in the middle of the song? The current odds for the Super Bowl National Anthem are leaning towards the Over(-180) of the 120.5 seconds O/U. If you think the talented musician will go more quickly, the Under pays +135.

9. Will the record combined score of 75 points in a Super Bowl be broken?

The “No” camp is pretty sure here, with odds of -6600 that the score will not total more than 75 points. Whether it’s the Eagles’ strong defense or their generally low-scoring offense, oddsmakers think the score will go lower than 75.

But, for those betting fans who just saw Philly put up 55 points last weekend and think it’s worth a shot, they’ll be rewarded, with +1200 odds for the Super Bowl score exceeding 75 points.

8. Will a non-QB throw a touchdown?

This is generally a safe “No” wager because it is a rare occurrence in any NFL game. But Andy Reid loves trick plays, and a player like Travis Kelce, who played quarterback in high school and briefly in college before switching to tight end, could easily throw a TD. For prop betting fans who take the “Yes” here, it would be a solid score – the Yes odds are +425.

7. What Team Will Win the Coin Toss in Super Bowl 59?

This is an easy one for anyone to get into, and any guest at your Super Bowl party can get in on the action. Head or Tails? Both pay out at -105. In the history of the Super Bowl, Tails has the edge, winning 30 times over Heads’ 28 wins.

6. Will any player score an Octopus?

An Octopus happens when a player scores a touchdown and the ensuing two-point conversion. Racking up 8 points in a few seconds is very rare, which is why the Yes odds are +700 and the No odds are -1600. If anyone can do it in Super Bowl 59, Patrick Mahomes must be at the top of the list. He has a knack for scrambling and finding the end zone in big games. But beware: he’s only done it once in the Super Bowl.

5. Will there be a flea flicker attempt in the game?

Again with Andy Reid’s fondness for trick plays, these are tempting odds at +245 for a Yes. Flea flickers – no, we don’t know why they’re called that either – are when a running back takes the handoff and then flips it back to the quarterback, who then throws the ball to a receiver downfield.

4. What color liquid will be poured on the winning coach of Super Bowl 59?

The Chiefs have won the past two Super Bowls, and their Gatorade shower was purple on both occasions. Do you think a Chiefs three-peat might happen, and with it a third straight purple shower for head coach Andy Reid?

Purple is paying the lowest odds at +175 if that’s your bet. You can pick from 6 colors, and can even bet on no liquid being poured at all (+2500). This is more likely if the game comes down to the last second when players don’t have time to orchestrate their pouring plan.

3. Taylor Swift bets

For last year’s Super Bowl, we had an entire Taylor Swift selection of Super Bowl Special bets. Stay tuned and check back often, once it’s confirmed that she’ll be there to watch her boyfriend Travis Kelce go for a third straight Super Bowl ring.

2. Halftime Show bets

With Kendrick Lamar headlining the Super Bowl 59 Halftime Show, you can bet in several ways on him and other artists playing the big event.

For example, how many diss tracks will Kendrick Lamar sing about Drake? It’s a prop bet you can play. And oddsmakers are thinking there will be at least one – the odds of 1+ are -1500. If you think he’ll go hard on his rap rival with 3+ diss tracks, you’ll cash in at +210.

1. Super Bowl MVP

Betting on the Super Bowl MVP is always a popular play.

This year, Patrick Mahomes leads the way as the MVP favorite at -105. Mahomes has three Super Bowl MVPs already to his name (and he’s not even 30 years old yet).

He’ll be challenged for the Super Bowl MVP trophy by Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley, the league’s leading rusher this season and the player who can break away for a touchdown at any point in the game. Barkley’s MVP odds are +275, followed by his teammate Jalen Hurts, Philly’s QB, at +375.

If you’re looking for a dark horse MVP candidate with higher-paying odds, have a look at KC’s Xavier Worthy (+3000). He’s been a big part of their offense lately, and he can run and catch with tons of speed. If he puts up two or more touchdowns in the game, he might be MVP-worthy…
